Jim Inhofe is still an idiot (Volume 10,042)

12:41 PM EDT on November 2, 2018

The first time I heard Senator Jim Inhofe speak, I was a senior in high school. Even though at that point in my life I was still dumb enough to believe in ghosts and that I could get through college with no debt, I could still tell that ole Jim didn’t make a lot of sense when it came to talking politics. Eight years and 6 student loans later, he hasn’t changed much. This week Senator Inhofe announced legislation that would allow the US to finally build that border wall our esteemed president has been old man ranting about.

TULSA, Okla. - An Oklahoma U.S. senator said he has the solution to the border and immigration crisis.

Senator Jim Inhofe unveiled a bill Thursday called 'The Wall Act.'

"A lot of the people don't think it's really necessary to have a wall," Inhofe said. "They don't think this is as big a deal as I think it is. The president has decided that, in order to really protect our interests in this country, we're going to have to do something that every other country does and that is have a wall."

Now I fact checked that statement with a good old google and found not only that most countries do not have border walls, but also that the countries that do consist primarily of Middle East conflict areas and former Soviet Union satellite states. Also, what’s up with naming it, “The Wall Act”? Is it an acronym like the PATRIOT Act? If that's the case, I’m going to guess WALL stands for White people Actually Legislating Lunacy. Because that’s what this particular act seems to be doing. According to the Tulsa World, Inhofe has a strange rationale for this legislation…

Inhofe said he expects immigration to be an important issue in Tuesday’s national elections but denied Thursday’s announcement was timed to influence them.

“A lot of Democrats are running because, on this issue, they actually agree with Trump,” Inhofe said, referring to President Donald Trump’s hard-line position on the issue.

Later Inhofe said Democrats want more legal and illegal immigration because they believe the new arrivals will vote for them and oppose efforts to outlaw abortion.

Inhofe’s rationale for the Wall Act has a lot of problems. First of all, immigrants can’t vote, let alone vote for Democrats and abortion rights, if they aren’t full citizens. Second, the article goes on to note that not only is illegal immigration from Mexico down 85% from the year 2000, but the number of immigrants maintaining an illegal status in the US has also dropped. Being that this piece of legislation was introduced so close to the election, it seems like the act is less about “protecting” the US from illegal immigrants and more about wasting time and government resources to introduce bullshit legislation aimed at scaring people into voting conservatively Tuesday. Suddenly the number of illegal immigrants coming into the United States doesn’t seem as threatening to the wellbeing of our country as our senator.
