Is Rape Really That Bad?

12:40 AM EDT on October 19, 2009

In the video below, Jon Stewart does a superb job of skewering the 30 Republican senators who recently voted against an amendment that would deny defense contracts to companies that ask employees to sign away the right to sue for sexual assault. Although he didn't particularly mention them, I figured it was worth mentioning that our two amazing (sarcasm) Senators voted against this amendment.

I understand it must be difficult for a lot of these lawmakers to vote in favor of something brought to the floor by Minnesota Senator Al Franken.  He, for many years, made his living by making jokes at their expense and calling them out on their hypocrisies.  However, in this case, I cannot fathom how anyone could harbor so much hatred that they would decide to side with rapists to prove their point, as Senators Inhofe and Coburn chose to do in this case.

While I encourage anyone to call, send emails, or write actual letters to our illustrious senators asking them to stop missing the forest by looking at the trees, I particularly wish our more conservative readers, the people who might have voted for these guys, would voice their displeasure...and not to accept the form letter that pretends you agreed with them that they send in response as adequate.
