A (real) e-mail popped into The Lost Ogle's mailbox yesterday, and it opened with this line:
You should do a blog about where the old broadcasters are that once worked in OKC.
A good idea, I think, so thanks to reader Ryan for the suggestion. In appreciation for sending in the idea, the editors of TheLostOgle.com have decided to declare Ryan the first honorary Ogle. Congrats, Ryan!
So let's move on and see what some former OKC residents are up to these days.
Devin Scillian
Ryan himself actually suggested Scillian in his e-mail, but as the older, more established Ogle brother, I'm going to take credit for this one. Scillian is now an anchor for the NBC affiliate in Detroit. I've spent a fair amount of time over the years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the only thing that got me through it was Scillian. All the homesickness washed away the first time I saw him on the news, as I knew I had an old friend there to comfort me.
Many readers may remember that Scillian is also a country music singer, which is cool and all, but musically I prefer the little known punk rock trio of Lance West, Cherokee Ballard, and Berry Tramel.
Heather Unruh
Years ago we had Patty Suarez, and now we have Amy McRee, Maggie Carlo, and Jessica Shambach, but many forget that bridging that gap was the beautiful and talented Heather Unruh, who made KFOR well worth watching. She's now working in the bigger, but certainly not better, market of Boston, where she has to put up with annoying Red Sox fans.
Molly Murphy's
All right, this one isn't a media member, but I just found this site, and if you're anything like me, you loved eating at Molly Murphy's as a kid. So if you want to find out what your favorite waiter or waitress is up to these days, check out this page.
Also, check out this old commercial for Molly Murphy's, courtesy of, well, MollyMurphys.com.
The McCain Brothers
The formative years of my life were spent watching the McCain brothers' morning show, and they were for a long time the clear #2 most famous brothers in the metro area, behind a pair of furniture salesmen at 3434 W. Reno. It seems the brothers McCain have headed west to Hollywood, where they've been acting and releasing CD's. They've appeared in such blockbusters as "Humanoids from the Deep," "Under the Legs of Clouds," and "Blood Deep." Also, they both appeared in something called "The Sex Monster," which I'm too afraid to research further for fear of what I might find.
