Democratic Governors Association drops $500K on Cyndi Munson…

I have good news for people who want to see more Cyndi Munson on their screens!

Inspired by recent polling that shows her within striking distance of the governor’s mansion, and with Republican candidates struggling in red strongholds across the country, the Democratic Governors Association has decided to invest $500,000 in Cyndi Munson’s gubernatorial campaign – giving the long-shot Democrat a slightly less unlikely chance to pull off an upset in November.

Via Politico:

The Democratic Governors Association announced Tuesday it is investing half a million dollars to flip the governor’s mansion in Oklahoma — a state the president won by 34 points in 2024.

The race between Republican former state Sen. Mike Mazzei and Democratic state Rep. Cyndi Munson is a statistical tie, according to recent polls. That includes an internal Munson poll from Workbench Strategy obtained by POLITICO, showing Mazzei has an edge but within the margin of error...

The last Democrat to win the governor’s race was Brad Henry in 2006, but Democrats are betting that the relatively small investment in what is shaping up to be a big Democratic year could be enough to spur an enormous upset. They argue their dollars will stretch further than they do in other states, helping Munson blanket the airwaves with both digital and TV ads.

That’s pretty cool. Even as one of the Debbie Downers who thinks wishful people are reading too much into the polling, and that Mike Mazzei will still probably win by double digits, it’s nice to see national Democrats at least pretend to care about Oklahoma. Seriously, thanks for making us feel wanted for once.

On that note, I guess we should probably take a look at these Munson ads that are apparently going to dominate our screens for the next few weeks. Just like in debates and on the campaign trail, it looks like she’s going to lean heavily into the Inola smelter controversy, Oklahoma’s sky-high insurance rates, and our dead-last education ranking…
