It’s been about eight months since Oklahoma City learned that two of its biggest hometown energy companies – Devon Energy and Expand Energy – were packing their bags for the heat, humidity and happy hours of Houston.
It was a double-whammy type of hit, hurting our city’s two fragilistic things – economy and ego.

From an economic perspective, losing two major corporate headquarters is a big f-ing deal. Sure, both companies say they’re keeping a large presence here, but it leaves everyone wondering how many jobs, charitable donations and dinners at Mahogany will eventually follow them south.
