Maybe summer has peaked, who knows, but all signs point to Oklahoma City having a pretty low-key weekend in store. To be fair, it can't always be bloody big-ticket brawls and back-to-back festivals. Some weekends are slower and involve sandwiches and prodigal sons.

Lord Buffalo
Fri., July 24 | 8PM | Resonant Head
Dark! Moody! Not too heavy. Lord Buffalo is a gritty Austin band with Stillwater roots – frontman Daniel Pruitt and guitarist Garrett Hellman grew up there and presumably honed their gothic Americana sound between blackouts at OSU. They fled the state to start the band but are back tonight playing Resonant Head in Capitol Hill. Tickets are $20.

Out West Music Fest
Fri., July 24 | 6-11 PM | West Village District
If you prefer your live music without brick-and-mortar constraints, pony up to Out West Music Fest tonight. Back for its second year, the downtown street festival features performances by Beau Jennings & The Tigers at 7PM and Superfreak at 9PM. The main stage is on Sheridan Ave. in West Village, providing ample temptations for food, drink and local boutiquing.

Chef vs Chef Sandwich Showdown
Sat., July 25 | 11AM-2PM | 39 Restaurant @ FAM
This sounds cool – not just because we scored press passes. Twenty local chefs, including Kurt Fleischfresser, Eric Smith, Garrett Hare and Ben Hutton, are about to slam sandwiches at each other's egos, competing for a cash prize, bragging rights and a literal belt.
Enjoy live music, sample the results and watch the judges name OKC’s best. Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door if they're not sold out. We’re taking bets on how closely Eric Smith’s entry resembles the Asian District’s unofficial neighborhood sandwich.

You gotta admire the blind confidence it takes to mash together Hinduism, Buddhism, chakra healing, galactic guides, singing bowls, tarot cards and the G-word into a single Fairgrounds expo!
